Chalfont St Giles - New Modern House

Winner of the International Property Awards 2026

We redesigned this late-1950s home for our clients and their modern family life. As they were thinking of relocating from London with young children, the replacement dwelling lies on a private road in Amersham within the Green Belt and the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). 

The unashamedly 21st  century design embraces natural light through double-height spaces, expansive glazing and rooflights, while framing views across the mature landscape. A full width balcony extends across the rear of the proposed dwelling. As well as creating valuable amenity space the projection provides significant solar shading at ground floor level.

Certain elements drew inspiration from mid-century modern design, such as refined materials, elongated openings and strong linear forms. Carefully considered massing respects the openness of the Green Belt and is significantly reduced in comparison with the existing, 

The new external walls feature highly insulated construction, durable materials and integrated technology create a low-maintenance, energy-efficient home. faced with a combination of stained timber weatherboarding, through-colour render and a fine quality facing brick low-level plinth. The strong vertical spine wall and chimney features, which together anchor the design, are constructed in fine quality facing brick
