The redevelopment of Ivy and Woodview Cottages in Lane End proposes four new terraced houses, comprising two two-bedroom and two three-bedroom homes.
The existing site comprises a pair of semi-detached properties dating from the 19th century. The buildings are identified as significant within an important group of residential dwellings in the Lane End Conservation Area. Having been unoccupied for several years, the properties have suffered from subsidence and structural movement, with severe internal and external cracking evident throughout.
The proposed homes draw on the character and material palette of the existing cottages, with red brick façades, London stock brick quoining and detailing around the window and door openings, and traditional slate roofs. Architectural details include timber open porches, dentil brickwork coursing, contrasting brickwork quoins, prominent chimneys and private gardens, creating a contemporary development that responds sensitively to the character of the Conservation Area.
