Knotty Green - Grade II Barn Conversion

A sensitive barn conversion into an award winning ballet studio

As part of a larger renovation and restoration project, JDA was asked to convert this tiring Grade II Listed barn into a bespoke ballet studio. Designed to retain the barn's simple agricultural character and understated external appearance, the conversion introduces a light-filled, elegant interior perfectly suited to its new purpose. The design responds sensitively to both the surrounding landscape and the building's historic fabric, successfully adapting it for contemporary use without compromising its identity.

The barn conversion received the Chilterns Buildings Design Awards, with the judges recognising it for its ''interesting new use as a dance studio, in a way that retains the character and simple exterior whilst still relating well to the surrounding landscape, and for the sensitive way in which the charming interior space has been designed."
